Why I need a personal trainer.
Why I need a personal trainer.
When it comes to getting fit there are so many options out there for people to choose it can become a minefield of what is best for you. Health clubs and gyms are now common place offering a range of services, from those that are low cost and have 24 hour access to those that offer everything under one roof from swimming to tennis and everything in between. If you don’t want to join a gym then you can always train at home using one of the many workouts you can find online or download an app on your phone that will monitor your every move, count steps and tell you how many calories have been burned. With all these options now available I decided to write this article looking at personal training. Many people might wonder just why they need a personal trainer as many of the options already mentioned are low cost and can be done by yourself and in the comfort of your own home. Below are my 5 main reasons that I feel having a personal trainer can make to you and why if you are serious about achieving your goals and seeing results then a good trainer can prove invaluable.
1: Effective training
It’s one thing doing a workout but it’s another thing
getting the most out of your time. While I do believe that there is no such
thing as a bad workout as anything you do is better than nothing I do also
believe if you are going to do a workout why not make sure it’s as effective as
possible. A trainer’s job is to make sure that the workout or programme you are
following is tailored to you and will help you towards your goals. A good
trainer will not just dish out the same workout to each and every client but
will make sure it is personalised to you. When I used to work in health clubs I
would often see the same people come and go, each workout would be the same and
often half hearted. They would literally be going through the motions. A good
personal trainer would make sure that every session you did was different,
challenging and progressive to make sure you didn’t hit plateaus. They would be
on hand not only to tell you exactly what you were doing but also to push you
all the way. This leads on nicely to point number 2…
2: Motivation
Training on your own whether at a gym or at home can be
difficult. As humans we all like to work within our comfort zones and it’s
counter-intuitive to want to push ourselves to the point of fatigue and
discomfort. A good trainer will be on hand to push you to make sure you give
100% in every workout and get the most from that session. More often or not it
will be the mind that gives out before the muscles or the body does and having
someone there to motivate and encourage you can make all the difference.
Whether this is done through gently encouragement, shouting or any other way, a
good personal trainer will be able to find what works best for you and get the
most out of you each and every time. Also the number of times I’ve had people
tell me they didn’t feel like training that day but only came in because they
had a session booked and didn’t want to let me down and yet after the workout
they felt great for doing it. This brings me to point 3…
3: Commitment
We all have days when we don’t feel like exercising, whether
it’s because we have had a long day at work or we are feeling tired after a big
weekend. We can all find excuses not to train and skip workouts. Consistency is
a big part when it comes to training and getting results and this is another
reason why having a trainer on hand can help. It is easy to let ourselves down
and skip a session but if you have a session booked with your trainer then
chances are you will make it because you don’t want to let someone else down.
Making that weekly commitment can help to keep you motivated and reduce the
chances of workouts being missed.
4: Reduced risk of injury
This point ties nicely in with the first point I made. Not
only will a trainer make sure the workout is effective but they are also on
hand to make sure it’s done safely and correctly. They will make sure your
technique and form is perfect all the way through the workout. Not only will this
help make sure the workout is effective it also reduces the risk of any
injuries or niggles that can be easily picked up if you lose technique. When we
start to get tired and reach fatigue it is very easy to lose form and posture.
The body is a clever piece of kit and you will always try and find the easiest
way of doing something especially when you’re tired, unfortunately this isn’t
always the best way of doing it and can result in injury. A trainer is on hand
to reinforce technique, correct posture and to make sure you are doing
everything safely and correctly from start to finish.
5: Nutrition
When it comes to getting results whether it is losing
weight/body fat, building muscle or increasing aerobic fitness, what we put
inside ourselves has a huge impact. While doing the right training is important
the nutritional side is just as much if not more so. Often as much as 80% of
the results you achieve are down to what you eat and drink. The old saying of
you can’t out train a bad diet is very true. A good personal trainer will be
hand to help you with this side of things as well. From writing out full diet
plans to offering advice and support along the way, they can make the changes
to your diet that may be required to really hit the goals you are after.
As you can see from this, finding a good personal trainer
can really help you to achieve the results you desire. Why not book in today
